Hockey Helps the Homeless

Team ARC plays with purpose to shut out homelessness

At ARC, giving back is core to our culture. Our people are passionate about helping our communities and when they get the chance to push themselves for a good cause – they rise to the challenge. Recently, Team ARC laced up their skates for the 15th Annual Hockey Helps the Homeless Tournament (HHTHT), collectively raising more than $13,000 to support Canadians facing homelessness.

The annual Pro-Am hockey tournament allows players to make a direct impact in their community by raising awareness and financial support to help Canadians secure a safe place to call home. Each year, amateur hockey players are placed on teams with former pros who rally together to play in a one-day tournament dedicated to beating homelessness.

2024 Tournament in Review

This year, Team ARC was joined by former NHL players Matt Higgins and Denis Polonich who contributed their skills on the ice to several hard-fought battles in the name of charity. While the team may not have walked away champions, their efforts during the games and in fundraising helped the event to exceed its goal and raise over $279,000.

100 per cent of these funds will stay in Calgary and help organizations like Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta Inn from the ColdTrellis Society and Calgary YWCA  to pursue affordable housing projects and provide support to local homeless and at-risk Calgarians.

Player Perspectives

“The hockey was a lot of fun and it was great to interact with the pros and get some real-life perspective from the organizations that benefit from the proceeds of the tournament, like the Trellis society, Inn from the Cold, and the YWCA.”

“Participating in the tournament was an enjoyable experience and a great way to connect with coworkers from around the company. Housing affordability in Calgary is an extremely challenging issue, and I am proud that we were able to raise money to support organizations working on solutions. Hearing stories from the people who have received help really drove home the importance of giving back where and when we can.”

“Playing in the Hockey Helps the Homeless Tournament provided such a sense of accomplishment! It showcased the impact of collective efforts to make a positive change while allowing you to combine your passion for hockey with a meaningful cause. I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to sign up next year as a player or a volunteer.”

ARC is proud to support the communities where we live and operate through corporate giving, employee donations and ongoing volunteerism. Learn more about our giving focus areas, or submit a community partnership application to apply for support for your community initiative.
