Position Summary

We are currently seeking an Cloud Data Developer to play an integral role in the migration of our on-prem BI infrastructure to the cloud. We use some of the latest Microsoft technologies and innovative techniques to build a reporting and analytics environment that allows for quick access to data for decision making, with a minimum of time spent on maintenance.

This position will offer the successful candidate broad business exposure to all facets of the Oil & Gas business, at a leading edge company where technology is used to drive efficiency. The primary responsibilities of this position are to build a familiarization with the existing on-prem environment and work to migrate artifacts to the cloud using the appropriate Azure tools.

At ARC, the work atmosphere is an open, fast-paced, team environment where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work independently, but also as part of a close-knit group.  We use agile methodologies to iterate quickly, fail fast, and end up with a successful product that meets the needs of the business users we are working with. In addition, we are always looking for ways to automate processes, improve efficiency, and limit the time spent supporting the BI application.

This is a full-time contract-based position. The duration of the contract is 6 months to start.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conversion and optimization of existing SSIS ETL logic to Python/SQL (Data Bricks or Synapse Analytics)
  • Data engineering for several major business processes at ARC, including planning, forecasting, financial and operational systems
  • Improvement of existing processes as they are migrated to Azure
  • Learn and understand the business processes at ARC
  • SQL scripting including writing complex logic SQL statements, functions, triggers and stored procedures.
  • Design, develop and improve new and existing artifacts for the Azure BI application
  • Collaborate with other developers on each step in the implementation of DW artifacts
  • Adhere to development standards and protocols used at ARC, including data governance, change management, code review, and documentation
  • Liaise directly with the business to collect, document, and analyze user requirements and map those business requirements to technical artifacts
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate complex technical descriptions in terms the business can understand

Must Haves:

  • Degree/Diploma in Information Technology, or any IT and/or Business-related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with developing technical BI data solutions with Microsoft BI tools (SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with developing BI solutions with Microsoft Azure toolset (Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Server, Azure Data Lake, Azure Analysis Services)
  • Foundational understanding of the Azure stack and understanding of which tool is best for a particular business problem
  • Proficiency with Python (Standard Python, Pandas and Pyspark)
  • Proficiency with SQL and Spark SQL
  • Good knowledge of PowerShell
  • Experience with version control systems (git) and Azure DevOps
  • Understanding of modelling business processes, using the Kimball methodology, for integration into the Data Warehouse
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate complex technical descriptions in terms the business can understand

Nice To Haves:

  • Experience working with semi-structured and unstructured databases.
  • Experience with unit testing, continuous integration and Power BI
  • Experience with Oil & Gas and financial software used at ARC (QByte, Mosaic, WellView, CS Explorer, PVR)
