We are currently seeking a Geophysics Summer Student to work within our Heritage Area Geosciences team. This position reports to a Senior Geophysicist and requires an organized and motivated individual who is ready to work in a fast-paced environment and take on new challenges. This 4-month work term will commence in May 2019. This dynamic position will provide the successful candidate with an excellent opportunity to learn about the Oil & Gas industry in Western Canada while developing skills to complement their geophysics degree. This position will be based in Calgary.
This will be a project-based work term where the successful candidate will collaborate with Senior Geoscience staff on one of our recent microseismic projects. The project will entail analysis of the various datasets collected with the microseismic data including tiltmeter, pressure measurements, tracer, and DTS/DAS data. The ability to utilize computer-based data analysis and mapping tools will be an asset.
Previous summer student responsibilities and accomplishments include the following:
- Understanding the mechanism for creating and observing microseismic events
- Analyzing and integrating various data including microseismic, tiltmeter, tracer, DTS and DAS, pressure, and production and engineering data.
- Calculating geomechanical properties and correlating to lab test data.
- Identifying type logs, creating synthetics, picking horizons, and mapping stratigraphic units.
- Compiling and mapping available area well and seismic data to provide structural, isopach and pay map interpretations.
The position is ideally suited for a 3rd or 4th year student currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science (Geophysics) program. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with strong organizational and communication skills. Related experience, a strong desire to learn, along with superior computer skills are considered assets. The successful candidate must be able to work independently within a team environment.
