A legacy oil field, the Pembina Cardium field was discovered in 1953 and with more than 7.8 billion barrels of original oil in place, the field is the largest conventional oil pool in western Canada. The region has been a core area since ARC’s inception in 1996 and over the years ARC has increased its operated presence to remain one of the largest operators in the region. Key properties include the North Pembina Cardium Unit No. 1 (NPCU 1), Berrymoor Cardium Unit, Lindale Cardium Unit as well as numerous MIPA properties. These properties generate significant cash flow and have substantial growth opportunities to add production and reserves. ARC has had great success accessing a lower-permeability reservoir beneath the primary producing zone using horizontal fracture stimulation. The application of horizontal drilling and evolving completion technologies in the region is reviving this 60 year old asset.
