Pembina
A legacy oil field, the Pembina Cardium field was discovered in 1953. ARC has been a core holder in the area since the company’s inception in 1996 and today remains its second largest operator. With more than 7.8 billion barrels of original oil in place the field is the largest conventional oil pool in western Canada. Attractiveness of the field includes its long-reserve life index, production of high netback and high quality oil, and proximity to refining facilities. ARC has had great success accessing a lower-permeability sandstone reservoir beneath the primary producing zone using horizontal fracture stimulation. The application of horizontal technology in the region is reviving this 50 year old asset.
